Project description:

There are currently many conceptual recommendations on early mathematics education. They vary from closely conducted training programs to proposals of mathematics learning in everyday and play situations. Especially learning in play situations is considered to be a central element in preschool education (cf. Wittmann 2004; Kunze, Gisbert 2007), because it represents an age-appropriate learning form which corresponds to child's natural necessities. First ideas about this way of mathematical learning go back to Friedrich Fröbel.

It can already be pointed out that selected games have a positive impact on mathematics learning in early childhood education (Siegler, Ramani 2008; Rechsteiner, Hauser, Vogt 2012). The research project MaBiis analyzes whether and to what extent traditional dice games, which are used on a regular basis, have an impact on the development of early mathematics skills. Children's achievement data is collected using tests, whereas the interaction during play time is recorded on video.
