We shall discuss both classical and recent results in the qualitative theory of nonlinear geometric evolution equations. These are generalisations of the classical heat equation. In the case of convergence of the flow for infinite time interesting geometric results are obtained.
We will discuss the following:
1. Heat flow for smooth maps between Riemannian manifolds (Eells-Sampson).
2. Ricci-flow for Riemannian metrics on 3-manifolds (Hamilton).
3. Yamabe-flow for Riemannian metrics within a conformal class (Ye).
